  • No available sunlight
  • Little to non-existent garden space
  • Inability to cultivate plants in a cold weather
  • Plants need protection from harmful pests

A stealth grow box is mainly shut closed, this is because no light shall pass through it at night to ensure optimal yields. Also, grow lights are installed as a substitute for sunlight along with a ventilation system to ensure hot air is expelled, and fresh air is supplied, this will improve the growth rate of the plant.

To put it lightly, a grow box gives the ability to control the environment where the plant will be placed and cultivated. This gives control to the following, lighting, nutrition, temperature, humidity, and ventilation.

How to Assemble and Build a Proper DIY Stealth Grow Box

If you have all the barriers that will restrict you from growing any plant or weed in particular, then a grow box is suited for your needs. Here is a step by step guide on how to build your stealth grow box that will surely help you with your indoor growing garden.

Here are the basic materials that you can use, these can be changed or improved based upon your liking.

  • Wood to be used as frames
  • Wheels that will enable you to move the box (optional)
  • A glass panel to serve as a partition for the grow chamber with the lighting chamber
  • Fans for proper airflow

Step #1: Building the Frame

The first thing that you need to consider is the size that you want for your build. By doing so, you can save money by purchasing only the things that you need. Also, in this phase, you can determine and finalize what materials you will be using for the frame. The widely used is wood since it is easy to cut and very cheap.

If the box will only be used for personal purposes and not for business, a 4-foot tall box is already adequate. You need four panels for the wall and 2 panels for the roof and floor.

Step #2: Enclosure

The following step is the enclosure that will be used for the setup. The side panels must be joined together, make sure that it is airtight to prevent unwanted gases, pests, and dust to contaminate the plant. You may also add the wheels for your setup in this step.

Step # 3: Installation of the Airflow System

Once the frame and enclosure have been completed, it is time for the next phase, the ventilation ducts in the Light Chamber. You have to place them strategically, there should be an exhaust on top and intake at the bottom. Computer fans are advisable since they consume low electricity and speeds can be controlled.

To properly place the airflow system, drill 1-inch pilot holes to the desired panel so that you can cut the ducts where the fans will be placed. The fans should fit the holes properly and securely, fill any gaps with the use of a silicone sealant.

Wiring Phase

The wiring should be safe and secured as well as constant voltage should be maintained, this will eliminate any risk of fire. You may use RCA cable for the fans. Use an extended length of wire so that you may manage them properly, also wrap them in electrical tape to protect them from any moisture.

Once you are done with all the cable management, connect the wires to the fan, and connect it to the power source. Test the airflow setup 2 to 3 times to ensure efficiency.

Step #4: Grow Lights Installation

The next step is choosing the correct lighting system that will imitate the sun. It is advisable to use Metal Halide or also known as MH lamps that provide a correct balance light gamut that is very similar to natural lighting.

You may also consider the use of an HPS lighting system that provides an orange and yellow light gamut. These are more cost-efficient than MH lamps.

Make sure that the light is not close to the plant itself, this will cause burns to the leaves which is very unhealthy for the plant.

Step #5: Air Filtration System

You will need a chicken wire for this phase. The length or size of the wire that will be used highly depends on the grow box. Zip tie the wire to the frame of the fans and wrap a panty-hose or stockings to act as a filter. This applies only to the intake and exhaust fans.

Step #6: The Final Stage

After all the needed materials are assembled, this is the time it is going to be built together. Attach all the components that are planned and make sure everything is secured and properly wired to maintain the proper voltage. Also, make sure that everything is airtight to prevent contamination.

Make sure to test everything for a couple of times before you begin growing your plants.
